Things to remember this 4th of July

The City of Danville Fire Department is closely monitoring the dry conditions and is not currently issuing any open burn permits as of June 26, 2024.

What does this mean for your 4th of July Celebrations?

The answer.....
Nothing! Unless you were planning to build a fire (even a small one) - In fact, with precipitation on the horizon, the burn permit suspension itself is expected to lift in the coming days! (Hopefully! Will update when lifted. )

"Open burning" as defined in the City of Danville's Open Burning Ordinance § 6-2. "means the burning of any matter in such a manner that the products of combustion resulting from the burning are emitted directly into the outdoor atmosphere without passing through a stack or chimney". This includes all fires, even the small ones, but does not interfere with the use of  consumer fireworks. The use of fireworks is only restricted by the City of Danville's fireworks ordinance and not dependent on open burn rules.

The use of consumer fireworks, as defined by KRS 227.700 is prohibited within city limits at all times except on December 31st, January 1st, July 3rd -July 5th and Memorial Day, and only between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00p.m.. according to The City of Danville's Sale and Use of Fireworks Ordinance § 6-3

Any organization or individual that is planning a public fireworks display, defined in the same ordinance, is required to obtain the proper permits from the City of Danville Fire Department.
